two icons of london

i quickly snapped this a couple of sunday's ago...two iconic images of london! .... the 'gherkin' building and a london taxi. This photo was taken by aldgate station.the gherkin is one of the newest icons of london and has rapidly become one of the most iconic and recognised. Its official address is 30 St Mary Axe and the site previously held the Baltic exchange. The building has a whizzy environmental heating/lighting system. The shafts pull warm air out of the building during the summer and warm the building in the winter using passive solar power.. The shafts also allow sunlight to pass through the building, making the work environment more pleasing, and keeping the lighting costs down.
